John Stamos Now

John Stamos, widely known for his role as Uncle Jesse in the iconic TV show “Full House,” nearly walked away from the series following its first table read. In a recent episode of “Hot Ones,” the 59-year-old actor candidly admitted that he initially “hated” the experience of filming “Full House,” but his feelings eventually transformed into deep affection for the show.

When “Full House” was conceived, it was pitched as an adult-oriented comedy, with John Stamos, Dave Coulier, and the late Bob Saget taking centre stage. However, as the show’s direction evolved, children were introduced into the storyline, becoming the beloved sitcom of the late ’80s and early ’90s.

Stamos feared the young cast members would overshadow his character during that pivotal first table read. He vividly recalled Jodie Sweetin, who portrayed Stephanie, delivering her lines to loud laughter from the audience. Stamos felt drowned out by the laughter and, in frustration, reached out to his agent, expressing a desire to leave the show.

However, over time, Stamos embraced his role as Uncle Jesse. He realized that “Full House” had no central character; instead, the show’s essence revolved around the theme of love and the unique dynamics of the Tanner family.

“Full House” centred around single father, Danny Tanner, portrayed by Bob Saget, raising his daughters D.J. (Candance Cameron), Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin), and Michelle (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen), with the assistance of his brother-in-law Jesse Katsopolis (John Stamos) and best friend Joey Gladstone (Dave Coulier). The show enjoyed a successful run from 1987 to 1995, and its spinoff, “Fuller House,” had five seasons released on Netflix from 2016 to 2020.

Interestingly, Jodie Sweetin was the first cast member chosen for “Full House,” a detail revealed by writer-producer-director Jeff Franklin. He recalled a room filled with nearly 100 people during the initial table read, eager to see Stamos, but Sweetin’s humour and presence stole the spotlight on that memorable day.

John Stamos and Caitlin McHugh embarked on a whirlwind romance that led to their marriage and the birth of their son, Billy. Their love story began when they crossed paths on the Law & Order: SVU set in 2011.

Stamos, reflecting on that time, recalled his character’s outlandish desire to have many children, with Caitlin ironically playing one of the women he attempted to deceive into having a baby.

However, their paths diverged for several years as Caitlin was in another relationship. Fate intervened, bringing them back together when Caitlin’s roommate appeared on an episode of Fuller House, and she attended a taping.

Their reunion was marked by playful banter, with Stamos jokingly accusing her of stalking him, to which she responded with a calm denial.

In March 2016, their relationship took a more concrete turn, and PEOPLE confirmed their dating status after candid photos of the couple enjoying ice cream together in West Hollywood surfaced.

During an appearance on The View, Stamos playfully hinted at his budding romance, mentioning how he used FaceTime to share a song with the girl he was dating, who adored the track “Disney Girls.” This glimpse into their early relationship showcased the beginnings of their deep connection.

The couple’s love story culminated in a February 2018 wedding, just four months after their engagement. They welcomed their son, Billy, into the world that same year.

Stamos has often emphasized their shared values and morals as the foundation of their relationship. Caitlin playfully suggested they start a family before marriage, jokingly citing Stamos’s age as the reason.

From their chance meeting on a TV set to their whirlwind romance and the joys of parenthood, John Stamos and Caitlin McHugh’s journey is a testament to love’s unpredictability and the delightful surprises life can offer.

Caitlin looked radiant in a white strapless ballgown with a tulle skirt, and the ceremony was a touching affair attended by close family and friends.

However, the night before their wedding, an unfortunate incident occurred when McHugh’s hotel room was burglarized, resulting in the theft of approximately $165,000 worth of jewellery. Despite this setback, their love shone brightly on their special day.

Their love for Disney played a significant role in their journey, from their Disneyland proposal to their honeymoon at Disney World. Caitlin, an avid Disneybounder, brought a touch of magic to their romance, and their shared love for all things Disney continued to be a cherished part of their relationship.

Their family grew with the birth of their first child, William “Billy” Christopher Stamos, on April 10, 2018. Stamos expressed his profound joy and love for his wife and son on Instagram, declaring that his family had become the best part of his life.

A visit to a fertility clinic marked their journey to parenthood. Stamos shared a humorous anecdote about discovering Fuller House on TV during a crucial moment at the clinic.

Tragically, they lost their dear friend and Stamos’s Full House co-star, Bob Saget, in January 2022. Following Saget’s passing, Billy became interested in Full House, which Stamos jokingly attributed to Bob’s influence.

The couple celebrated several milestones, including anniversaries and birthdays, with touching social media posts showcasing their enduring love and appreciation for each other.
